In 1976, a military junta headed by General Rafael Videla overthrew Argentina’s democratically elected government and launched a campaign of terror against all who opposed them. During the course of the 7 years which followed, 15 000 people were executed, and 30 000 disappeared. 250 concentration camps were created where ‘terrorists’ were subjected to interrogation and torture.
27 years later, some of the torturers finally faced trial. The first to be convicted was Julio Simon, who is now behind bars. One of his victims, Gerardo Brusezzi, a Uraguayan journalist, returned to Argentina to confront his torturer face to face, and to try and find out the real names of two other torturers, known to him only by their pseudo names ‘Kung-Fu’ and ‘Colores’.
In this dramatic meeting, the tables are turned: Brusezzi, formerly the victim, becomes the interrogator. Filmmaker Rodrigo Vazquez recorded the confrontation and the events that followed. An extraordinary film; in the telling of the story of Brusezzi and Simon, one of the most painful parts of Argentina’s recent history is revealed.
