Britain’s binge-drinking culture has made its way across the Channel. Instead of having an aperitif before a meal or drinking wine at table like their parents, these youngsters are now drinking to get drunk – usually beer or spirits. They meet up with a group of friends, usually at weekends, out of their parents’ sight, to get “off their faces” as fast as possible. We hear from the young people who do alcohol as a drug and filmed the ravages of binge-drinking – alcohol poisoning, brawls, car accidents and alcoholism, which can take hold in a surprisingly short time.
