Every month, hundreds of desperate people attempt to flee North Korea to the South. Only a few succeed. Those who make it find themselves facing an entirely new set of problems. Many have left children behind in Korea and lost contact with their families. Discriminated against and traumatised by their experiences, they succumb to depression or suicide. They are free but rootless. Desperately alone with their memories. Filmed over a year in South Korea, China and Thailand, ‘Han: The Price of Freedom’ looks at the fate of the North Koreans who risked everything to be free.
